We hope everyone is enjoying being a part of the club so far. This week after watching the latest episode of “The Pride”, we made a quick “special Interest Report”. We brought in 3 leaves and a 1 minute script. We covered the way to take a thing that you are interested in and craft an informational story about it. We recorded a story about leaves. That video is linked below this description.

Next week, we will begin recording a special interest report about a topic they chose: Candy.

The “assignment” if they choose to accept it is to think about what their favorite type of candy is and why (Taste, texture, etc.) Also, if they want to do any internet research of how that candy is made either in pictures or short videos, they could send the link back to us. They could also think about some piece of music that is about Candy that we could use as part of the soundtrack. And if they want to bring in a piece of candy as a prop for the video, that would be fine too.

For this report on leaves, watch the video and remember what the elements are of making a special report. A script: Even if you plan to improv some of it, write out your ideas first and hopefully a script. An intro: In this case, I printed out a piece of paper that said “Fall Leaves” , covered it in leaves, and used a fan to blow the leaves off of it. People talking on camera looking directly at the camera clearly and confidently. People holding the prop and gesturing with it. B-Roll video of the thing being described. Voice over of people talking about the B-roll material. More B-roll captured in the field (Patrick raking and bagging leaves). More voice over. People making a concluding statement. And finally, the soundtrack: In this case, we added the jazz standard “Autumn Leaves” as played by the Bill Evans Trio. When you put all those elements together, it makes a pretty mundane topic actually watchable.

Please enjoy the latest edition of The Pride. We recorded the majority of the show on Feb 13th, but we had last week off, and we decided to teach the kids more about editing at yesterday’s club so they have a better sense of how the sausage is made, so to speak.

Beargrass Media will be offering an after-school club at Greathouse for 10 weeks during the winter/spring semester of 2023. The club will teach students how to record and edit video productions using some mobile devices owned by students as well as cameras, tablets, and laptops owned by Beargrass Media. The club will run on Mondays from 3:45 PM – 5:00 PM in the Library January 23 – April 10 (skipping an In-service day February 20^th and Spring Break weeks). The specific dates will be 1/23, 1/30, 2/6, 2/13, 2/27, 3/6, 3/13, 3/20, 3/27, and 4/10.
