The Louisville 48 Hour FIlm Project has announced its filmmaking weekend as July 29-31, 2022. The kickoff will be at Molly Malone’s (933 Baxter Avenue Louisville 40205) at 6 PM on July 29th.   (In short, you show up Friday night, receive your assignment, and then make a 7-minute movie in 48 hours.) To go directly to the web site, find the official rules, etc and register, click the Louisville 48HFP City Page directly below:

We have linked a 2 1/2 minute promo directly below and a bunch of other videos below that.  Please take a few minutes, scroll below, read about the event, and watch some winners from previous years, and interviews as well.

2021 Winner – A is for Actor

2020 Winner – Fidem

2019 Winner – Hex Boyfriend

2018 Winner – Embedded

We want to recruit a wide variety of filmmakers from students to experienced filmmakers.  We would like the Louisville 48HFP Filmmakers to represent a really diverse cross section of age, race, gender, and experience.   In June and July, we will host several events to hopefully encourage Louisville filmmakers to throw their hat in the ring.

The Louisville 48HFP will be sharing behind the scenes stories about twice per week in mental preparation for the filmmaking weekend.  And speaking of being prepared, this week we are featuring a story from 8 Pints Productions’ 2015 Film “Preparedness”.   This is still one of the most memorable films in Louisville 48HFP history.  The Otis County Wild Turkey Militia lives on in our hearts.  This film will teach you about strategy, water boardin’, rat bags, and of course keepin’ warm.  You might think these guys have the answer to everything, but what if you’re wrong?

Team Leaders – Submit your US Mail address in case you receive an award.

Team Leader Mailing Address Form

_____________________________________
(INFORMATION BELOW FROM FILMMAKING WEEKEND)
If you have not already done so, we need you to log on to cinema48.com, create an account, and upload your team leader agreement before the meeting starts.  If it is your first time logging on, select “Register”.  You do not need to fill out and submit the safe sets form.  You will create an account on Cinema 48 using the same email address you used to register your team on 48Hourfilm.com.

Cinema 48 Web Site

This is also where you will upload your film on Sunday and all of your paperwork. The first Sunday upload is called the Wrap Up Form.  Budget a few extra minutes to do this.
When uploading your finished video, it should only take a few minutes to upload a 2 GB file, and once you start uploading, it will give you a timestamp.  If that timestamp is before 7:30 Sunday, you are in, (but please don’t don’t wait until the last minute.)  There are
4 other cities in Eastern Time Zone that will be wrapping up at the same time, so you are not just competing for resources with Louisville folks at 7:29 PM.

There are a number of things it would be prudent for everyone to do before the weekend starts, and they are described in the digital dropoff description link.

Digital Dropoff Instructions

All of the Production Documents can be found directly below:

Production Documents

When submitting documents, you may submit pdf’s, scans, jpegs – anything with a clear actual or electronic signature.  As usual, the Team Leader Agreement will be required at the kickoff meeting.

As usual, the final element will be released by 7 PM, and you will be released to begin the creative process.

Much of the weekend is the same as it ever was, but of course, you will want to follow safety protocols.  Headquarters released a set of guidelines called “Safe Sets”  (I know, the name is cheesy, but it has good info inside.)

Safe Set Guidelines

When the weekend is over, you will NOT drive with your laptop rendering in the car trying to remember if this flash drive is a 1GB or a 16GB, etc.  You will upload the film directly to Cinema 48 as described above.

Afte your film is turned in, make sure to upload all of the other paperwork, but it does not need to be in by 7:30.  Then get some much needed sleep.

On Monday or Tuesday, make a film trailer to advertise the screening to your friends and family.  It really builds excitement for the team as well.  Movie posters are also a lot of fun even if you do not print them.

SCREENINGS

The screenings will be run on a service called “Eventive”.  The premiere screening will be Sunday, October 25th at 7:30 PM, and the link will be made public during the week prior to the event. Tickets will not be limited, and the cost will be under $10.  There are some fees the city producer incurs for using the system, but I will make it as cheap as I can.  The audience award voting will be tied to the purchased tickets.
The combination of Judges awards and the audience awards will generate the list of teams that are invited to “The Best of the Louisville 48HFP”.  Announcements will come out on Monday morning/afternoon with a new team being announced every 30 minutes on the Louisville 48 HFP Facebook Page, but the final awards will not be available until watching the event on Tuesday, October 27th at 7:30 PM in another “Eventive” online event.

The overall winner will receive a plaque like the one pictured below.
